A message from PNAE Co-ordination Team (Professor Jane Coad, Dr. Immacolata Dall’Oglio and Mrs. Jean Davies)
Dear Colleagues
On Monday 6th February, 2023 we learned that a devatating earthquake had struck Turkey and northern and western Syria. At this time, we send our thoughts to all those affected. PNAE is deeply saddened by the loss of so many lives and the destruction now faced by survivors of this horrific disaster. Our thoughts are with the babies, children, young people and their families affected and all the nurses and medical staff supporting their needs.
Professor Dr Ayse Ferda Ocakçı, is our PNAE representative in Turkey has written a below account.
Two earthquakes hitting our country with a magnitude of 7.7 and 7.6 respectively on the night of 6th February 2023, have caused a devastating impact on ten of our provinces located in the eastern region. Unfortunately, the majority of our citizens experiencing such a dreadful devastation have lost their lives. We have lots of dead and wounded people. We all have tried to transfer any aid cooperatively to the region. We have understood the real meaning of ‘desperation’ by experiencing such an awful disaster. There are lots of parents, children and relatives hearing the voices of their loved ones under the rubble but can not reach or help them.
From now on, we all strive for to treat any wounds and help any survivor in every sense. We have great support from other countries in this period.
We have appreciated support from PNAE members either with their messages or best wishes from the very beginning of the disaster. I relayed all messages to my paediatic nursing colleagues. We appreciate all of your support and thank you. God bless all of us.
